zeroclaw

A 1,400-line companion package that fixed unreliable tool calling, merged same-day.

The brief

zeroclaw is a 32k+ star agent framework. Tool calling on GLM/Zhipu providers was unreliable — a real blocker for anyone building on those models. The fix needed to be a complete, tested, documented package, not a patch.

What I made

I built a ~1,400-line Python companion package: a LangGraph agent, 7 tools, a CLI, Discord integration, tests, and docs. It fixed the unreliable tool calling and was merged same-day into zeroclaw, later consolidated into the Rust core.

Reflection

  • A complete package (agent + tools + CLI + Discord + tests + docs) is far more likely to be accepted than a bare fix.
  • Fixing a provider-specific reliability issue can ripple into the core architecture.

Tech stack

  • Python
  • LangGraph
  • CLI
  • Discord
  • tool-calling

Results

  • Merged same-day into zeroclaw (32k+ stars).
  • Later consolidated into the Rust core — the fix outlived the package.
  • Shipped as a complete, tested, documented package, not a patch.
